Forming rapid drying screeds for fast commissioning. For bonding and unbonding screeds both in rehabilitation and new floors in interior and exterior situations, before installing ceramic tiles, natural stone, wood and other floor coverings.
BEYEM SCREED is suitable for:
- Precast concrete/ concrete slabs or concrete poured on site
- Cementitious floors /cement based screeds
- Other rehabilitation substrates
For bonded screeds (10 to 35 mm thickness): substrates must be dry, solid and free of dust, loose and detached parts, paint, wax, oil, rust and all other pollutants. Hole, leaks and fissures in the substrate should be sealed. In case cracks or fissures are presented, they should be treated with a mortar from the BEYEM mortar for concrete repair range. Surface must be open pore, being convenient to ensure this fact the treatment of it. Apply special compressible band around the perimeter of the rooms to be laid and around any vertical elements which pass through the floor (such as pillars and columns). Before application of BEYEM SCREED it is necessary to apply a bonding layer using BEYEM SCREED mixed with 10% of BEYEM ELASTIC diluted in water in a ratio 1:1. Spread BEYEM SCREED on this first layer while it is still fresh.
For unbonded screeds (35 to 80 mm thickness): The mortar must be laid on an isolating layer (polyethylene sheet barrier or similar) to allow for movement between the screed and the existing substrate. Apply special compressible band around the perimeter of the rooms to be laid and around any vertical elements which pass through the floor (such as pillars and columns).
Mix BEYEM SCREED at least 5 minutes with a normal job site mixer, low speed electric mixer, rotating mixer or pump machine, with 2,25-2,75 l per bag of clean water. The mix should have a semi-fry/mortar consistency. BEYEM SCREED must be tamp and spread using screed guides. Tamp thoroughly before floating to obtain a better surface finish. BEYEM SCREED is set for foot traffic in 12 hours. Wait 24 hours before laying of ceramic tiles and 48 hours for natural stone. After 48-96 hours BEYEM SCREED is ready for installing wood, resilient floorings and painting.
Drying times can vary depending on temperature and relative humidity , soi it is absolutely necessary to use a carbide hygrometer to measure the level of residual humidity before finishing with the desired covering.
- Do not apply below 5ºC or above 30ºC.
- Protect unset mortar of the direct sunlight, frost or strong wind.
- Do not use BEYEM SCREED on wet surfaces or on substrates which are subject to rising damp. In this case it is necessary to use an appropriate waterproofing slurry.
- Do not add aggregates, additives or other binders to the BEYEM SCREED mix.
- High humidity of the substrate and low temperatures conditions prolong the setting time.
- Excess of water reduces final mechanical strengths and quickness of setting.
- In case of high temperature or/and low relative humidity, surface of BEYEM SCREED must be protected to avoid a rapid drying. Once the material has set, cure with a fine spray of clean water as long as possible.
- Respect the expansion and structural joints in the substrate and form distribution joints (surfaces ≥ 20m2).
- Areas of BEYEM SCREED containing pipes must be reinforced with light steel reinforcement.
- Forr laying heated screeds, apply the mortar mixed with 10% of BEYEM ELASTIC diluted in water in a ratio 1:1.
- Mix only sufficient material that can be applied using available labor and equipment.
- Time before light foot traffic and floor covering can vary depending on the layer thickness and drying conditions. Check the substrate surface before overcoating.

Forming rapid drying screeds for fast commissioning must be carried out with a COVs and radiation free, normal setting, rapid drying cement-based mortar for bonded and unbonded screeds compliant with EN 13813 – Class CT C25 F6 , such as Beyem Screed, manufactured by Rodacal Beyem Company. Beyem Screed is especially suitable for rehabilitation and new floors, before installing ceramic tiles, natural stone, wood and other floor coverings. Apply always over cleaned and stable substrates in a 10-35 mm of thickness for bonded screeds and 35-80 mm of thickness for unbonded screeds laid on an isolating layer (polyethylene sheet barrier or similar).
